All About Slavery
Slavery was a huge part of the 17th and 18th century. There was a lot of confliction between the black and white races and unfortunately the white race had the upper hand; in other words they had control of the black people. These days there are equal rights between both of the races and there is no slavery like the African and American Slave Trade.
Black people had no independence and were totally controlled by the whites. This was because of the difference in skin colours, the way in which they spoke and because of the difference in wealth. The blacks were treated very unfairly and became known as slaves to the Americans.
To carry the slaves back and forth they used ships. These ships were slave ships and they carried thousands of chained black people at one time. These ships were in a disgraceful condition. They were kidnapped from there home environment to most likely die aboard the ship. If they did die aboard the ship they were thrown over board to float in the sea.
Once the ship had reached America the remainders of slaves were sold like items of clothing at a market, to be then worked 12 hours a day. This was for very little or no money what so ever. One of the main jobs for a slave was picking crops, the main crop was cotton. This was woven and sold on in the link. This was done by mainly male slaves, the women had to feed, clean and put the animals in there shelters. This was done daily.
The cotton made by slaves is sold back to the British. The British then buy the cotton and then sell them to the public. This was to make more money. They then start the process over again. Taking the slaves to be sold to America and receiving the cotton to sell. Not only cotton was sold to the British; so were coffee, tea, sugar, rice and tobacco.
After all there hard work, the slaves earned food, shelter and water however, they did not receive money. All the profits from farming went to the farm owners. Money could be used to release the slaves and return them to their homes. There was only a minority of slaves that were able to be released. Some slaves owners, if satisfied would award there slave with a tip. Slaves who were as fortunate to have a valuable belongings could sell them to receive money instead to buy there freedom.
Slavery is still known to this day, but there isn’t half as much as there was. These days everyone is equal, there is no discrimination and everyone is treated the same. Due to a few cases of racism, the police now get involved and they may be put in jail.
